SRI LANKA TAKES STEPS TO ASSURE TOURIST SAFTEY

Welcoming the move of the Civil Aviation authorities, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourist Board Mr Renton de Alwis said .This is a proactive move to ensure that we address the safety concerns of all our operators in all sectors of the tourism industry. Sri Lanka has always acted responsibly in placing the highest priority on the safety aspects. Although this may cause some degree of inconvenience to some passengers and airlines in making connections, the positive impact of having addressed the safety issue is far outweighs all.
All airlines, hoteliers and tour operators are working in unison under the umbrella of Sri Lanka Tourism to manage the recent fall out situation and have expressed confidence in a gradual recovery. Several proactive measures are being taken by the tourism industry to off set the impact and move forward to build confidence retaining the credibility of destination Sri Lanka.
One of the many unfathomable mysteries of Sri Lanka is how it manages to squeeze so many different features such as the palm fringed beaches, the picturesque highland with its sprawling tea plantations, over 250 years old ancient culture, probably the worlds 8th wonder, abundant flora and its friendly people - all these treasures so amazingly concentrated in this small island makes it one of the most treasured islands in Asia.
However we have noticed in the recent past that the international media reports on the situation in Sri Lanka do not reflect the actual situation in the country. Most people would be concerned about the security measures being implemented along with the most crucial aspect of welcoming tourists to the country. Their SAFETY. It is our duty as the official public body representing tourism in Sri Lanka, to make you aware of the steps that are being taken and implemented in order to give every single visitor to Sri Lanka the utmost degree of safety in order to have a pleasant and memorable visit to the island. We first focus our attention on the most recent happenings which lead to the airport and aviation authorities to re-schedule flights. Like many other European Airports, the Bandaranaike International Airport has limited its landing/takeoff times to between 5am and 10pm. However, all airlines have re-scheduled their night time departures/arrivals and have resumed normal frequencies into Colombo in order to maintain the seat capacity and cause the minimum inconvenience to their passengers. Calling your travel agent or airline prior to your scheduled travel would be advisable in order to get an update on the schedule changes
Sri Lanka was recently visited by a host of celebrities including Cliff Richards, Scarlett Johansson, Miss Italy Elizaveta Migatcheva, Miss Germany Isabelle Knispel, Miss India Natasha Suri, Miss Earth Miss Amruta Patki and Miss World Tatana Kucharova , who said Srilanka is, ?A beautiful island with very friendly people. I would love to visit again!? The Travel Editor of Times online Steve Keenan just returned from a trip to Sri Lanka.

Australia were worthy winners of Cricket's World Cup - but it was an appalling tournament in almost every way. The World Cup has ended with Australia walking away with the trophy after beating Sri Lanka by 53 runs (D/L method) in the Final.
In 2003 Australia won the Cricket World Cup winning all their 11 matches. In 2007 they did the same again and they were even more convincing - not once in this year's run of 11 wins did they even look remotely in trouble.
