Sri Lanka figures
prominently in many industries. From the major ventures such as Garment's
& Apparel's, Information Technology, Tourism to the traditional like
Tea, Rubber and Coconut industries there are many opportunities for the
investor. Add to that all the backing that each consecutive government has
given to investors as well the solid infrastructure that is available the
foreign investments in the country are steadily increased over the past
few years.
Sri Lanka is
an Island which is strategically located on the seaways connecting East
& West, this is important since it serves as a point of entry to South
Asia. The Colombo port is the most modern port in the region offering a
range of comprehensive services with a state of the art infrastructure background.
The Bandaranaika International Airport is the main airport within the country
apart from which several smaller airports exist as well. Major airlines
operate flights from BIA to many destinations worldwide.
With its tropical
climate, multi ethnic & multi religious background, Sri Lanka offers
a very suitable atmosphere to the investor. A labor force of over 6 million
in a country where a literacy rate of 92% exists as well as having the lowest
labor cost per worker in Manufacturing is definitely a bonus. The country
has adopted an Open Economy policy with investors being provided with preferential
tax rates, constitutional guarantees on investment agreements, exemptions
from exchange control and 100% repatriation of profits, which further enhances
suitability for investing here.
