Be
amazed at the shopping experience in Sri Lanka. From pavement vendors
in their gaily decked stalls selling anything from rubber bands,
fruit and t-shirts to the more modern façade of the shopping
complexes of Odel or House of Fashions that adorn the city. The
range is seemingly endless, while the souvenirs are infinite.
Traditional
tea, gems and spices are the usual souvenir items that can be obtained
at most souvenir shops though, some tourists have now heard of the
fame of Sri Lanka's apparel industry. The latest casual wear from
Gap, Tommy, Faded Glory and Calvin Klein can be bought at the bigger
stores for a fraction of the price, an extensive range of casual,
summer clothes for day time wear, chic sophisticated shirts and
dresses for the winning and winter clothing at prices you'd never
get back home. Check however for missing buttons, an undone seam
or a broken zip - but rest assured, there's lots more where that
came from. Crisp cool cottons, flimsy voiles or slinky silk ca also
be bought at decent prices that won't break the bank. Barefoot or
Paradise Road, both also selling a magnificent range of non-traditional
eye catching souvenirs are the best places for quality cotton sarongs,
trousers, lungis or even linen.
